This Spring, Dr. David Taylor, CRSB and IGI http://innovativegenomics.org Researcher, from the Doudna – Nogales lab – in collaboration with the Coalition for Education & Outreach (CEO) http://scienceatcal.berkeley.edu/coalition-for-education-and-outreach/had the unique opportunity to host three fledging high school scientists, from the North Bay’s Solano County.
Here is what students had to say about their experiences.
“Thank you for taking the time out of your day to give us a tour of the labs. It was very inspiring to see how passionate you are about your work. Before that day I had no clue what molecular functions through cryo-electron microscopy was. It was very mind opening to see how many different choices are out there for work and research. Who knows, maybe you will be my professor one day!” – Ka’sha Whitelow
“Thank you so much for giving us a tour of your lab. I didn’t know anything about microscopy until I met you. Seeing how passionate you were about your job was very influential and has sparked my interest in research. It made me realize that there’s much more to science than I thought. Thank you again!” – Niala Nutt
“Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to show my friends and me around. All of the questions answered and advice given was extremely helpful. It was really cool to look through the electron microscopes and see all that you do. I am immensely grateful that I got to have this experience.” – Danielle Harris
Dr. Josephine Yuen, Executive Director, Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science http://www.e3s-center.org wrote, “I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for your support of the recent visit by the three American Canyon High School Students. Some of you met with the students while others helped to arrange the visits. Your efforts made the day very memorable for Kasha, Nia, and Danielle. At the end of the visit, they said that the visit was the highlight of their spring break.”
