For many physicians, marketing is simply a matter of putting an advertisement in the local newspaper, redecorating the waiting room or conducting a direct mailing to people in the community. But this is a haphazard approach that will accomplish little more for your practice than draining its marketing budget. Corporate strategies are arguably the most essential and broad ranging strategy level within organizational strategy. The corporate strategy level concerns itself with the entirety of the organization on a more or less abstract level, where decisions are made with regard to the overall growth and direction of a company. For context, other strategy levels include business strategy and functional strategy - more on those later! Visioning involves setting the high-level direction of the organization - namely the vision, mission and potentially corporate values. Objective Setting involves developing the visioning aspects created and turning them into a series of high level sometimes still rather abstract objectives for the company, typically spanning years in length. Allocation of resources refers to decisions which concern the most efficient allocation of human and capital resources in the context of stated goals and aims. Strategic trade-offs are at the core of corporate strategy planning.
A strategy is the central, integrated, externally oriented concept of how a firm will achieve its objectives. Strategy formulation The process of deciding what to do; also called strategizing. Neither can succeed without the other; the two processes are interdependent from the standpoint that implementation should provide information that is used to periodically modify the strategy. In general, the leaders of the organization formulate strategy, while everyone is responsible for strategy implementation.
