Mubashar Group No: 06 University of Gujrat: 3. Brazing 4. Soldering Process: 5 1 1. Heat both items by applying the soldering iron to the copper pad and the component lead. Continue heating and apply a few millimeters of solder.

Remove the iron and allow the solder joint to cool naturally. It only takes a second or two to make the perfect joint, which should appear shiny. Soldering Tools: 8 1. Vise 2. Safety Glasses 3. Roll Tip on Damp Sponge 3. Properly Tinned Soldering Iron Tip This will allow for the transfer of heat to the work piece. What is Flux? Advantages of Soldering: 1. Low power is required. Low process temperature. Microstructure is not affected by heat. Easily automated process. Dissimilar materials may be joined. High variety of materials may be joined.

Thin wall parts may be joined. Disadvantages of soldering: 1. Large sections cannot be joined. Fluxes may contain toxic components.

Soldering joints can not be used in high temperature applications. Low strength of joints. Careful removal of the flux residuals is required in order to prevent corrosion. Brazing Process: 1. In a brazing operation, you apply heat broadly to the base metals. The filler metal is drawn through the joint to create this bond is capillary action. A reducing flame is used to prevent the oxidation. The component parts and brazing metal are loaded into a furnace, heated to brazing temperature, and then cooled and removed.

The parts are pre-loaded with filler metal and placed in a high frequency AC field. Power supply Brazing Welds: Advantages of Brazing: 1. Any metals can be joined including dissimilar metals. Certain brazing methods can be performed quickly. In general, less heat and power are required than in fusion welding. Disadvantages of Brazing: 1. Joint strenght is generally less than that of a welded joint. Although strenght of a good brazed joint is greater than that of the filler metal it is likely to be less than that of the base metals.

High service temperatures may weaken a brazed joint 4. The colour of the metal in brazed joint may not match the colour of the base metal parts. You just clipped your first slide! This article presents an introduction to brazing, including information on its mechanics, advantages, and limitations. It reviews soldering with emphasis on chronology, solder metals, and flux technology. The article also provides useful information on mass, wave, and drag soldering. It presents a table which contains information on the comparison of soldering, brazing, and welding. Melvin M. Siewert, Stephen Liu, Glen R. Sign In or Create an Account.

Soldering and brazing provide permanent joint to bond metalpieces. Soldering and brazing process lie some where in between fusion welding and solid state.

What is the Difference Between Welding, Brazing and Soldering?

Brazing is a metal -joining process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint, with the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal. Brazing differs from welding in that it does not involve melting the work pieces and from soldering in using higher temperatures for a similar process, while also requiring much more closely fitted parts than when soldering. The filler metal flows into the gap between close-fitting parts by capillary action.

During the process of Solidification, the atoms present on the surface of the filler rod are sharing the energy with atoms present on the surface of parent material, and thereby it produces the joint. When the surface atoms are sharing the energy-producing the joint it is called Surface Alloy Joining. Now let's see the Detailed Explanation of Brazing and Soldering Process in detail along with Advantages, disadvantages and Applications. Joining of two metals without preparing any joint is called as brazing operation. The mechanism of the joint is Wetting and Surface Alloying.

Welding , brazing and soldering are all methods for joining two or more pieces of material — primarily metals. The key difference among these processes is the temperature used to create the joint. Welding — for the majority of processes - involves melting of the base materials to create a consolidated joint. Welding may or may not involve the use of filler metals or shielding gases.

WELDING, BRAZING, SOLDERING. Metal joining process that uses melted metal as joints. Welding – original materials are melted and joined → solidified.
